The Backcountry Lite Tripod is the quintessential Alpine Tripod and an excellent choice for astronomy.

Design Points:

Weight is critical on backcountry hunts; the tripod legs weigh 20.4 oz (with a long centre column) or 18.9 oz (with the included short centre column), well below any other offering currently available with all these features.
A max height of 45" gives you more than enough room for sitting while glassing with room to splay the legs out on steep hillsides.
A 3-section design means you get larger diameter carbon tubes over a 4 or 5-section tripod, giving a higher stability-to-weight ratio.
A triangular centre column means the tripod can fold together tighter, taking up less pack space.
Quick one-finger adjustment to 3 different leg angles enables you to get the right setup on any terrain.
Oversized centre column locking knob for ease of use with a gloved hand.
Oversized rubber feet for grip on all surfaces.
