This popular desiccant cap has a dual diameter nosepiece to fit both 1.25" and 2" focusers. It comes with 10 sachets of desiccant, additional sachets can be purchased separately.

Designed and manufactured for us here in the UK.

Made entirely from CNC-machined aluminium (no plastic!).

Red or Black anodised screw cap and black-anodised cup. The fit and finish is very nice indeed!

Supplied with a pack of 10x sachets of moisture absorbing desiccant.

Note: Please don't remove desiccant from the sachets (the sachets are perforated).

A sachet or two is placed in the cup then the lid screwed on. A captive O-ring ensures the cap fits snugly into 2-inch focusers and the lid is air-tight. The desiccant draws moisture from inside the telescope tube through the cap's breathing holes. Used regularly the cap will prevent moisture harming the telescope optics.

The desiccant starts yellow then turns green when it can no longer absorb moisture. The desiccant sachets can be dried on a radiator then reused several times. Replacement sachets are available.

Suitable for SCT, Maksutov, refractor and other telescopes with a closed-tube design.

There are currently no specifications available for this product.

so-so

Red is nicer, black looks a bit dodgy out from the box. Nice to have it aluminium, but plastics would also be okay and would avoid screeching when being turned in.
Now for the bad part - it does not work with the Baader clicklock 2 inch SCT adapter . Could be the sloping 2 inch fitting which the radial grip of the clicklock cannot...um...grip. So I had to fit 1.25 clicklock adapter inside first and only then could I insert it. Rather inconvenient.
Refractor has the 1.25 adapter in all the time so it works.

A good solution
Friday, 2 September 2016  |

Ive had one of these for 18 months. First of all Im glad I bought one, even if they are a little over engineered and therefore a bit pricey. The milled aluminium construction will last forever, and impossible to damage or distort even with careless use. The same cannot be said of the O ring which cracked and perished after just a year. Fortunately they are cheap to replace once a supplier is found. Attempts to reactivate the sachets by heating takes the moisture out of the beads alright, but then the moisture seems trapped inside the sachets as condensation, and they have to be thrown away. A simple solution to this is to snip off the end of the green sachet and once re-activated, use them as loose beads. A piece of coffee filter paper at the 1 1/4 inch end prevents the beads from coming out of the holes. Every couple of weeks I check the colour of the indicator beads and when they turn green I replace them with dried orange ones or a fresh sachet. The loose green beads are microwaved until orange again and are stored in a small airtight container for future use. My telescope is kept in an observatory and previously I had suffered with condensation inside the telescope. Ive not had any moisture problems since I bought this unit. It is worth the peace of mind. It looks pretty good too.

Good, but disappointing finish
Wednesday, 11 June 2014  |

Well constructed and fits snugly in the focuser tube, so should do the job well. Finish was disappointing for the price though, poor blotchy anodising on the black cup (red cap was fine) and several scratches and chips to the barrel, as if previously used.

FLO Response: We are really sorry to hear your desiccant cap had a poor anodising. We'll dispatch another today

Does it work as it should?

After getting moisture on the inside of my Corrector plate, I had to do something to get rid of the moisture inside the OTA before it damaged my precious optics. I bought one of these caps about 3 months ago. I have to say it does a pretty good job. It's definitely worth the money. Recommended for all SCT owners
