Standard unheated dew shields prolong the onset of dew formation. Depending on your location, a simple dew shield may be all that is required. However, in moist climates a regular dew shield might not be enough.
Astrozap Flexi-Heat Dew Shields feature an integral dew heater that directs heat to your optical tube assembly, eliminating any chance of dew formation.
It also shields your telescope's optics from stray light.
How does it work?
The source of heat is a thick film heater manufactured for operation at 12 volts. Sixty-six percent of the surface area is heat emitting - this means more even heat distribution and no localized hot spots or burnouts often associated with resistance wire heaters. Best of all, it won't create heat wave disturbances.
Astrozap Flexi-Heat Dew Shields are made from durable yet light weight ABS plastic and lined with black felt to help increase contrast. A 2-inch sewn neoprene rubber “Mega Grip” material wraps snugly around the telescope optical tube assembly, keeping the dew shield in place, and eliminating any chance of dew formation!
Supplied with a six foot phono-plug cable.
Will I need a Dew Controller?
When using a Flexi-Heat Dew Shield on a telescope with an aperture around 10" or larger a simple 12V Dew Heater Supply Cable can be used to connect the tape to a suitable 12V power-supply. When connected this way the heater is essentially running on full-power. This won't harm the heater but with smaller telescope apertures it might result in the optic being warmer than necessary which can effect the view and waste energy. The solution then is to use a Dew Controller which regulates the heat (also enables you to use multiple dew heater tapes). Astrozap Dew heater tapes are compatible with most good dew controllers, including those manufactured by Lynx Astro.
