About this product

Model:  sw_evolux_82ed
Part Number:  10197

Following the success of their Evostar ED series of doublet refractors, Sky-Watcher has released two new 'Evolux' ED doublet telescopes.

They are designed to appeal to astrophotographers looking for a compact telescope that performs well.

They will also please visual astronomers wanting a portable, widefield, grab-and-go telescope.

The doublet lens assembly includes one ED glass element, a matching Crown lens and Sky-Watcher's proprietary Metallic High-Transmission Coatings (MHTC). Sky-Watcher claim their new MHTC optical coatings are "... the finest photon anti-rejection coatings in their class, optimising light throughput up to 99.5%"!

The 2.4” dual-speed Rack & Pinion Focuser is better-made and more sturdy than the Crayford focuser fitted to Evostar telescopes, and it features an indexed drawtube.

The telescope is supplied in a foam-lined aluminium case with a 45mm dovetail bar, clamshell ring, and adjustable dew shield.

An optional 0.9x two-element focal reducer/field flattener is available, which includes an ED glass lens and adaptor/field rotator. When used with the Evolux 82ED, it results in a four-lens f/5.8 optical system with two ED elements.

Super ED 82.

How thrilled I am with my new evolux 82. The built quality and improved ED optics are great. The evolux has an improved smooth focuser and an improved tube cradle with its thoughtful twin finder brackets. My first views of the moon and Jupiter were super sharp''better than all my other scopes.'' The evolux 82 is so easy to carry around and use it will surely be my most used scope from now on. Anyone thinking of buying an evolux 82 need not hesitate''its a great quality ED scope with great optics at a great price. Finally, you will get the usual great speedy service of First Light Optics.

SW Evolux 82ED

This is a really nice little refractor! 😀 I am so pleased with it. You can tell as soon as you open the case that it has been constructed to the highest quality. Very aesthetically pleasing, with a great combination of white, green and silver colours.

Unless you want to view the moon, then there isn't much to see this time of year (middle of June) as the skies are so bright. So I have been using the Evolux as a daytime birdwatching/nature spotting scope. I am doing this in combination with a Baader 2" to 1.25" adapter and a William Optics 1.25" 45° correcting prism. This gives fabulous clear views.

I have got the telescope mounted on a Fotomate VT-680-222R tripod. I used two 1/4" screws and attached them from the quick release plate into the threaded/tapped holes on the SW dovetail bar. Then that easily goes on and off the tripod. It was more secure this way, just one screw left it slightly loose.

There is a really smooth rack & pinion focuser with fine adjusting, should you need it.

I hope this review has helped to make your decision. I have been helped many times by customer reviews, so I thought I should return the favour. 🙂
