About this product

Model:  idas-nbz-II-dual-band-48
Part Number:  NBZ-II M48ST2

The Japanese-made IDAS NBZ-II Dual Band Filter is designed to enhance the contrast of Ha and OIII emission nebula.

While the IDAS NBX filter performed well in fast optics at high transmission rates as advertised, unfortunately it suffered from halo issues around bright stars. So IDAS have decided to release a new dual narrowband filter called “NBZ”, which was newly designed from scratch to dramatically reduce internal reflections. And the production process was also modified to achieve this goal.

Everything else remains unchanged. The NBZ-II is still F2-capable with the same bandpass.

In addition to enhancing contrast IDAS NBZ-II Filters are designed to accommodate the spectral shift when used with fast optical systems.

This Dual Band Filter is ideal for One-Shot Colour CMOS/CCD Cameras as well as Mono Cameras.

Features include

  • Ideal flat top bandpass
  • Excellent in-band transmission
  • Off-centre bandpass accommodates off-axis rays for fast optics (up to F2)
  • Steep bandpass edges minimise internal reflections
  • No IR blocker required
  • Available in 48mm
  • 2.0mm thickness (parfocal with other IDAS LPS filters)
  • IDAS-proprietary IGAD/MBT/UFP quality

NBZ filters are only available in 48mm (2") and 52mm threaded cells.

Detailed Plot of NBZ Ha and OIII Bandpass

The transmittance curve of interference filters will naturally shift towards the shorter wave length side against oblique light incidence, and this tendency will be more noticeable as the inncidence angle becomes higher as shown in the following figure.
Some of the competitive 7nm or narrower filters will decrease in transmittance by 50% or more when used in a fast optical system (around F2), while the NBZ=II retains 80% or more of the transmittance under the same conditions.

Idas NBZ-II on Rasa 8 F2
29 April 2024  |

I use the NBZ UHS on my F2 Rasa`s so was looking for something to use on my 140 apo but had doubts about this filter still performing on a fast scope..
FLO agreed to allow me to test this Filter... I set 2 rasa 8`s up with identical setups and cameras (imx571) on the same target at the same time for 25x120s subs but one with the NBZ UHS and the other with the new NBZ-II.
To my shock the NBZ-II provided the same detail and quality but blocked more light pollution than the NBZ UHS..
The HA was a darker red while the uhs gave a more lighter pink... and required more gradient processing... I cant wait to test this filter on an F5 to F7 scope.. and this filter is a well worthy upgrade for my OSC camera setups..
