Chris says
"I have previously used ZWO planetary cameras to image small, bright, deep-sky targets. This new ASI 585mc is a significant step forward. Considering it is an uncooled camera, noise is remarkably well controlled. Even on hot summer nights!
With its relatively large sensor, zero amp glow and low noise, the ASI 585mc can handle long exposures of faint deep sky targets.
For deep sky imaging, use a telescope or lens with a focal length of around 250mm to 650mm.
For planetary/lunar/solar imaging, telescopes with a much longer focal length are best."
About this product
Model: zwo_asi585mc
Part Number: ASI585MC
The ZWO ASI 585MC is essentially an upgraded ASI 485MC.
Fitted with Sony's latest IMX585 CMOS sensor, the ASI 585MC has 1.5x higher overall sensitivity than the ASI485MC. It is also more sensitive to Red, Green and near Infrared (NIR), especially in the >850nm wavelength range, and has 3x larger full well depth and zero amp glow.
The fast frame-rates make this an excellent choice for solar, lunar, and planetary imaging, with long focal-length telescopes.
Also, despite being uncooled, the camera's zero amp glow, low read noise, high sensitivity, large full-well-depth, and high dynamic range make it a surprisingly good camera for imaging deep-sky targets, with short to medium focal-length telescopes.

excellent camera for the money 26 March 2023 | Francis
brilliant little camera, I'm using it wit a L xtream filter and my 150 pds and the images I'm getting are high quality, for a budget camera it does a pretty decent job

I use this for EAA with a Goto dob and its very capable. Although its primarily a planetary camera its certainly suitable for DSOs and short exposures e.g 4 seconds stacked for EAA. I am very happy with the views I have had of M81, M82, M3 etc with it.
I havent even tried it for planets yet.
The field of view is half the size of the full blown DSO cameras like the 294 etc so this makes it unsuitable for big targets like Andromeda etc although I am sure some kind of mosaic is possible.
If your ambition is to take hours of exposures of the Veil Nebula and win an APOD you should probably save for something with s bigger FOV .
As an EAA camera though I am very happy with the results i have had with it despite very little experience.

Brilliant camera. I’ve been using mine for DSO’s and comets, which luckily has coincided with a period around new moon. Very sensitive my sub lengths seem to have dropped by a fair percentage and areas of sky background show less noise too. Corrective frames are limited to flats, as it’s low noise and zero amp glow make shooting dark and bias frames unnecessary. Highly recommend this camera for DSO’s.

if like me you watch endless you tube videos with envy at the masterpieces the likes of Lukomatico , Astrobackyard etc and all you would like is a half decent pic to make you feel you've achieved something then I cant recommend this camera enough !. I have been trying to get a half decent picture of Orion or m31 for 12 months with an ed72 tied to a canon 650 dslr on the few clear nights I've seen to no avail . I am currently sat staring at my tablet taking its 20th 3 minute stacked sub of the horsehead and flame nebula through an asiair linked to this little 585 camera and its like something I do see on you tube . In fact its the first time I've grinned since i started down this path .
So, If you are on a budget and cant afford to go fully cooled but want some decent results like me then I think you can't go wrong with this Camera for the price

Like the previous reviewer, I also bought this camera based on an experience that Astro La Vista (Chris) had on YouTube. I’ve only used this camera for deep sky using a William Optics Zenithstar 61. Also been using sharpcap’s live stack feature and have to say it’s opened a whole new world for me, coming from using a DSLR. The results so far for deep sky have been amazing. And as always top-notch server from FLO with a detailed description of what parts I would need to get the right backspace.

I had been considering this camera for some time following its announcement. Following a review by Astro La Vista (Chris) I pulled the trigger and bought the 585. This is my first Astro cam and so far it’s been excellent, 300 sec subs revealing a great amount of data, coupled with the zero amount glow making for some great shots. I am using this in conjunction with an ASIair plus and Skywatcher 72ed. Very pleased with both camera and support from FLO.
