"The latest version of the of the AVX mount has a number of improvements over previous versions, including new motors with increased torque. These give improved tracking and provide more power to overcome slightly unbalanced setups. The mount also has larger base castings which provide greater stability when using heavier loads." Pete Lawrence writing for BBC Sky @ Night Magazine
The new Celestron Advanced VX mount is a completely re-engineered upgrade to the hugely successful Celestron CG5-GT mount.
Specifically designed to provide optimum imaging performance for smaller telescopes. Features include permanent programmable periodic error correction, all-star polar alignment, autoguider support and the ability to image across the meridian without doing a meridian flip so you can seamlessly image the best part of the night sky.
It also features a new dual-saddle that accepts both Vixen-type and Losmandy-type mounting plates.

This is my first EQ, and a "proper" mount compared to my Nexstar ALT-AZ mount (which now looks like a toy in comparison). I coupled this mount with a JDM saddle, which is much better than the stock AVX saddle. Unlike some other reviews, I was lucky not to have any issues with damage to the plastic parts - yes they are a bit wobbly, but I don't touch them and they otherwise seem sturdy enough. This mount will hopefully last me many years, and I'll continue to use it for visual and will be my gateway mount to astrophotography. I like the ease of setting the latitude (also for more Northern latitudes, to try and use the optional polar alignment scope would be tricky, but that scope is largely redundant with the advent of EAA).Some reviews elsewhere say the maximum payload capacity of 30lbs isn't enough (or 15lbs if you go on the premise of having the maximum capacity to ensure stability), but that obviously depends on your setup. I surmise that my C8 OTA, a Celestron autoguider, and ZWO camera won't be an issue for this mount!I will need to get a new TeleGizmos scope cover, which is unfortunate (my existing fork-mount cover won't be big enough), but will be worth protecting this great mount.
Like the previous review, I to had damage in transit of the plastic parts of the mount. Although replacement was not a problem with FLO, it does leave you with a sense of disappointment with Celestron' s use of materials when they claim in adverts how advanced the mount is. The dual mount options are also poorly thought out, as you have to remove and re-position the tension screws between Losmandy and vixen mounts, can be replaced (at some expense) to a compression type dual mount. Apart from those issues I look forward now to put it through its paces.
Not so happy with the AVX mount. My copy got damaged during the transit. Actually the plastic they used is of very poor quality. It is very brittle at many spots. I live quite far off, island. Lucky however I bought from FLO. They did their very best to help me, accepting a return and sending me another new one. I still had to pay some extra money with to the customs here to get my product. The tripod is very sturdy.I will update later yo include details about tracking with the AVX.
The Celestron AVX mount has a dual saddle so accepts both Vixen-type and Losmandy-type mounting plates.
