Paul Money writing for BBC Sky @ Night Magazine

"We placed a camera and large lens on one saddle and the telescope on the other and centred it on M45, the Pleiades star cluster, leaving it tracking while the camera took exposures and we periodically checked the view. The mount kept M45 at the centre of the view for 50 minutes, and the images we later processed showed that you can do astrophotography with this mount with short exposures. We also tested the AZ-GTiX's Point and Track feature, whereby without alignment you start up and aim the telescope at your target and leave it tracking. We did so on the Moon and, again, 20 minutes later it was still centred.

Overall, we were very impressed with this lightweight mount and found we quickly turned to it first for our observing and imaging sessions. We can highly recommend it."

Sky-Watcher AZ-GTiX Dual Saddle Alt-Azimuth Astronomy Mount

The highly portable Sky-Watcher AZ-GTiX Dual Saddle Alt-Azimuth Mount with integrated Wi-Fi will carry up to two telescopes and is controlled wirelessly via your Smartphone or Tablet using the free SynScan App for iOS or Android.

The AZ-GTiX creates its own WiFi network so it can be used anywhere without reliance on other Wi-Fi networks.

After entering your coordinates into the App and following a simple alignment procedure, you can explore the universe using the App’s intuitive touchscreen menu.

The AZ-GTiX and SynScan App provides full computerised GO-TO control, enabling your telescope to be automatically slewed to any of the objects in the App’s extensive database of 10,000+ celestial objects.

It incorporates Sky-Watcher’s patented 'Freedom-Find' dual-encoder technology so it can be moved manually, in either axis, without the mount losing its positional information. This provides freedom, convenience and flexibility during observational sessions.

The mount is quiet in operation and has a payload capacity of up to 6 kg (using one saddle) or 10 kg (using both saddles).

Accepts telescopes with standard 45mm Dovetail Bars.

Weighs only 2kg, the AZ-GTiX is available as a mount head (for connection to a regular photo tripod via a standard 3/8" tripod bush) or with an optional Sky-Watcher stainless steel tripod with an accessory tray.

It is supplied with an L-Bracket, an additional saddle plate, and a 61mm extension pillar.

Excellent smooth tracking, but not perfect
07 March 2023  |

First of all, let me get the one main negative out of the way. The first mount I received had a lot of play in the azimuth plane, so much so that it literally rattled. FLO were excellent in getting the return tested and verified for a fault and sending a replacement mount all within a week. Massive thanks to Alex for sorting that for me.

The good! - This mount is absolutely silent whilst tracking and extremely smooth. Ease of use, even for a novice like me was off the chart! With one star alignment and freedom find allowing manual movement to the next object, I found that objects stayed right in the middle of the view throughout my sessions so far. Why then only four stars?..

Simple, I purchased this mount for dual use, firstly as both as a tracking mount when required to allow some basic imaging and secondly as a manual observation mount for short viewing sessions when time and 'clouds' were limiting factors. Its in this second intended use that I am slightly disappointed. Admittedly I am comparing the GTiX to my AZ4 which is rock steady with zero vibration, but the GTiX just has too much 'flex' in both the Alt & Azimuth planes leading to a lot of vibration with the slightest of touches. This leads to a slightly disappointing experience when using the mount for visual observation.

For this reason I have decided to keep a second mount for the grab n go stuff, and wanting to maintain the dual saddle option have opted to order the Skytee-2, which by accounts is also a rock solid option. I will post a review on this once I have had chance to get hands on use.

To summarise.. if you like me, want a very easy to use tracking mount with a dual saddle for relatively short exposure imaging, the GTiX is a brilliant option and actually deserves 5 stars! if however you are looking for the versatility of being able to use it for visual observation, be prepared to deal with some vibration.

Hope this helps someone.

So far so good! Huge Thanks for FLO
21 February 2023  |

Just received item, initial comment, sturdy, feels and looks like proper quality, well packaged, super quick delivery, accurate live tracking of the parcel with text update too, awaiting a powerpack and clear sky (just my luck, last night sky was inky black and clear sky!) Can’t wait for next clear sky! Cannot yet find fault, ordered a few things now from FLO, and you are now my ‘go to’ shop for my needs (and wants!) so THANK YOU.
